Silas Nacita, the formerly homeless college football player who announced Wednesday that he no longer would be playing for Baylor, clarified the reason behind his dismissal, writing Thursday on Twitter that he disregarded advice from the school’s compliance office over what benefits he was allowed to accept.
On Wednesday, Nacita wrote on Twitter that his removal from Baylor’s roster was the result of “a decision of the NCAA.” But after the school officially announced that Nacita would no longer be playing for the Bears, the NCAA said on Twitter that it had not declared Nacita ineligible and that Baylor had not requested a waiver allowing the school to pay for his living expenses (Nacita was a walk-on and not on scholarship).
Nacita paid for his Baylor education through scholarships and loans.
