Peter King thinks the Eagles could give the Redskins the world to draft Marcus Mariota at No. 5

It’s a NFL mock draft. NFL mock drafts, of course, are ridiculous. But in his first foray into mock draft season, MMQB’s Peter King came up with a fresh angle on just how the Philadelphia Eagles might get Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota.

It involves shipping a ton of draft picks to the Washington Redskins, a team more accustomed to giving than receiving picks. Here’s King’s take on what might happen when the clock is running on the No. 5 pick in the April 30 draft:

That would qualify as a blockbuster and there are a number of reasons why it might make sense. Kelly, the Eagles’ coach, needs Mariota. The Redskins, an aging team with needs at many, many positions, need as many draft picks as possible because they aren’t just one top star away from turning the team around. And the Eagles, who have the 20th pick, would need to move up to No. 5 because the New York Jets have the sixth pick and they don’t seem likely to leave Mariota on the table.
