Borussia Dortmund dominated their Bundesliga rivals Schalke 04 on Saturday, winning the derby match, 3-0. But it wasn’t easy. In fact, the first of Dortmund’s three goals didn’t come until the 78th minute. All that build-up, however, led to one of the best soccer celebrations so far this year. After getting the ball past Schalke’s goalkeeper, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang pulled out a Batman mask and handed his teammate Marco Reus a Robin mask. This made the Dortmund fans very happy, especially in light of their recent Champions League loss against Juventus earlier this week.
The celebration was eventually cut short when referee Felix Zwayer showed Aubameyang a yellow card for his antics, but that didn’t seem to stop the team’s momentum going forward.
Dortmund went on to score two more goals against their higher-ranked rivals with stellar plays by Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Robin, er, Reus.
“If you didn’t know who Batman and Robin were before, you do now,” Aubameyang jokingly said (via the BBC) after the game was over.
