Brett Hundley headed into the NFL Scouting Combine on a bit of an island. The UCLA product is behind Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota but is seemingly ahead of the other quarterback prospects. Saturday was an opportunity to help prove he belongs in the first round.
The athletic aspects of the game is where Hundley excels. There are questions about his ability to stand tall in the pocket and deliver strikes. He understands that's something teams will ask about during interviews, as noted by Chris Burke of Sports Illustrated.
"Obviously, you can get on the field and do what you can, but you're not going to see live action, so that's the one big thing where you have to sit down and talk to [teams]," Hundley said. "Going over film with them is huge. These formal interviews we get to do, sit in a classroom and talk to them, that's when we get an opportunity to really express our reads, our thoughts."
Here's a look at how he performed at the combine:
| 40-Yard Dash | 4.63u (T-4) |
| Bench Press | DNP |
| Vertical Jump | 36" |
| Broad Jump | 10' |
| 3-Cone Drill | 6.93 |
| 20-Yard Shuttle | 3.98 |
| 60-Yard Shuttle | TBA |

Check out his 40-yard dash:
Bruce Feldman of Fox Sports notes the results from the 40-yard dash were no surprise:
Yet, despite that quickness, Josina Anderson of ESPN highlighted the pocket awareness questions that won't get answered in workout clothes:
Landing behind a stable offensive line at the next level would obviously help his cause. There's still work to do in terms of making quicker reads and getting the ball out, though.
Chris Sprow of ESPN points out he could land in the second round in large part because of the lack of talent at the position. A lot of teams are seeking upgrades:
Hundley also held his own during the throwing drills.
John Clayton of ESPN liked what when the UCLA standout did while throwing to his left:
CollegeFootball 24/7 highlighted his solid overall performance:
Dion Caputi of National Football Post was pleased with the footwork:
The Pewter Report highlighted his continued push to lock down that No. 3 QB placement:
Josh Norris of Rotoworld noted he also excelled in the shuttle:
Ultimately, Hundley did everything he needed to do on Saturday. Showcase his athletic ability and illustrate he can deliver throws accurately when given time. Again, the questions about pocket presence will persist. But in terms of what he could accomplish at the combine, he did well.
He may still get challenged by either Garrett Grayson or Bryce Petty to become the third quarterback off the board. He seems to hold the inside track right now, though. It's a key battle to win because it could allow one of those prospects to sneak into the back end of the first round.
