Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch was a man of few words at the Super Bowl and now he hopes to trademark one of the few things he said during his encounters with reporters in Arizona.

Last week, he filed a trademark request for the phrase “I’m just here so I won’t get fined” with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, a move that makes sense because 1) it became a catchphrase earlier this month and 2) it’s something he can use to boost his Beast Mode brand of apparel. He’s betting that people will want to wear the words as well as say them and it’s a safe bet because all the men’s apparel on his website is sold out. It got a significant brand-awareness boost during the Super Bowl when Lynch wore his apparel to all media events.

“We heard from our fans and so many of them were saying that they wanted that phrase on the clothing,” Chris Bevans, who runs Lynch’s “Beast Mode” apparel line, told ESPN.com. “This is just listening to the marketplace.”

Soon, everyone can wear shirts and sweatshirts bearing the phrase, which might wear a little thin with America’s management forces, but, hey, that’s their cross to bear.

Lynch, the Seattle Times reports, owns four Beast Mode trademarks and has filed for four more, including “Power Pellets.” A year ago, after the Seahawks won Super Bowl XLVIII, he trade marked “About that action BOSS,” his only comment during media day.

Lynch might as well market the phrase, if Bill Raftery can seek trademark protection for “Onions!” and Pat Riley can own “three-peat.”
