Brandon Bostick, the tight end whose botched onside kick helped doom the Green Bay Packers in the NFC championship game against the Seattle Seahawks, announced Monday that he has been released by the team.
Although the team had not made an anouncement, Bostick took to Twitter. “Thankful To Spend The First 3 Years Of My Career In GB. Unfortunately My Time There Has Ended,” he tweeted. “I Appreciate The Support From Everyone In GB!”
Bostick, a wide receiver at Division II at Newberry College, broke his leg in August and he ended up playing on only 33 snaps from scrimmage. But the spotlight found him in the title game, when the Packers needed only to recover an onside kick and then get a first down to advance to Super Bowl XLIX. Bostick’s role was to block and let Jordy Nelson recover the ball. Instead, he tried to make a play on the ball, which bounced off his helmet.
It was a terrible moment, but Bostick handled it with grace and maturity, taking questions after the game and the next day.
“The game, my teammates, everybody in Green Bay, my family, I feel like I let everybody down,” Bostick the third-year player said after the game. “I’ll just do my best to try to move on from it. I don’t know how long it’s going to take for me to move on from it, but I’m just going to do my best to move on from it.”
Now, Bostick wrote that he is looking and hoping for an opportunity elsewhere.
