U.S. soccer goalkeeper Hope Solo likely to return from 30-day suspension on Saturday

ESPNW’s Julie Foudy is reporting that U.S. women’s soccer goalkeeper Hope Solo is expected to be reinstated to the team on Saturday.

U.S. Soccer suspended Solo for 30 days on Jan. 21 after husband Jerramy Stevens was pulled over for DUI while driving a team van. Solo was a passenger in the vehicle at the time of the arrest, which occurred during the team’s training camp in Carson, Calif. A source told Foudy at the time that the suspension was the result of a number of issues, including Solo’s arrest on domestic violence charges in June 14, charges that were later dropped.

“Sources told ESPN that Solo has abided by the conditions laid out for her by U.S. Soccer, but she must still meet with coach Jill Ellis and other officials for the final step in the reinstatement process,” Foudy writes.

Solo has missed two matches in the run-up to the 2015 Women’s World Cup, a 2-0 loss to France on Feb. 8 and a 1-0 win over England on Friday. The national team will depart for the Algarve Cup in Portugal on Saturday.
