The New York Jets bolstered their secondary Tuesday with the addition of cornerback Buster Skrine.
Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News noted, via a source, that Skrine’s deal with the Jets will be four years and $25 million. Of the $25 million, $13 million will be in guaranteed money.
Skrine is only 25 years old and appeared in all 16 games for the Cleveland Browns in each of his first four seasons in the league. He has six interceptions during his career, but four of them came in 2014, which indicates he is just starting to hit his prime as an impact corner in the league.
Perhaps the Jets are acquiring him at just the right time.
Skrine’s durability and consistency is what immediately stands out in today’s injury-riddled NFL, but the Jets need the help against the pass as well. They finished 14th in the league in opposing passing yards allowed last year and have to face New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady and Co. twice per season.
