DeMarco Murray deletes Cowboys from Twitter bio

Less than eight hours before the NFL’s free-agent market opens at 4 p.m. EDT, the situation surrounding one of the most highly-prized prospects is getting a little silly.

DeMarco Murray, the NFL’s leading rusher in 2014, has deleted the Dallas Cowboys from his Twitter bio in one of those juicy “is it something or is it nothing” moves that can fuel hours of sports TV conversation.

Last week, the Cowboys placed the franchise tag on wide receiver Dez Bryant, assuring that Murray would hit the market. He has been bromanced by Tony Romo and Jason Witten, who vacationed with him and their spouses recently in hopes of convincing him to give the Cowboys a chance to counter whatever offer he gets in free agency. Murray may want to stay in Dallas, but how much less money would he take to do so? A running back’s career is cruelly finite, even by NFL standards, so you can’t blame Murray for sending a message to Jerry Jones and the ‘Boys.

Of course, that works both ways. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported early Tuesday that Murray had not heard from the team since last week.

There’ll be greater clarity in the matter starting at 4 p.m.
