Chris Johnson, the former Tennessee Titans and New York Jets running back, is in stable condition in an Orlando hospital after a bullet struck his shoulder during a drive-by shooting early Sunday morning.

One man was dead and a third was wounded in the incident, which Orange County police said occurred at 4:09 a.m. According to the victims, an unknown vehicle pulled up beside them at a red light and began shooting at their Jeep, the Orlando Sentinel reported. Police found the deceased driver, 28-year-old Dreekins Oriko Johnson, still inside the vehicle and the other victims on the sidewalk. Reggie Johnson, also 29, is hospitalized in stable condition with gunshot wounds to the shoulder, hand and leg.

Although Orlando police would not confirm the occupation of Chris Johnson, both ESPN and NFL.com report that it was the former running back.

Chris Johnson, who had been training in Los Angeles, had gone home for the weekend, according to Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer. The Jets chose not to exercise their option on the second year of Chris Johnson’s contract, cutting him last month rather than paying him a $3.5 million base salary. He rushed for 663 yards on 153 carries last season, scoring once.

Chris Johnson was arrested in January when Orlando police found two semiautomatic handguns were found inside his car. Hewas charged with a misdemeanor, open carrying of firearms, and was later released on $250 bond.
