There will be no hiccup in the trade of LeSean McCoy to the Buffalo Bills after all.
Although the running back reportedly was unhappy and uncertain about reporting to the team after his surprising trade last week by the Philadelphia Eagles, he and the Bills agreed to a five-year, $40-million contract that will become final when NFL free agency opens Tuesday afternoon. His agent, Drew Rosenhaus, told multiple outlets that the deal will pay $16 million in the first year, which would be a $5.75 million raise over the contract he had in Philly.
As for the running backs market, there’s suddenly a bit of upward movement in the market, with Marshawn Lynch returning to the Seattle Seahawks for $12 million and Mark Ingram getting a four-year, $16-million deal from the New Orleans Saints. Meanwhile, the Eagles reportedly are looking at Frank Gore as a possible replacement for McCoy.
Free agency opens at 4 p.m. Tuesday. Team can negotiate with players but nothing can be officially signed before then.
