In an effort to discredit Aaron Hernandez's defense team's assertion that the former New England Patriots tight end wouldn't hurt a friend, the prosecution in the Odin Lloyd murder trial is hoping to receive clearance to make mention of Hernandez allegedly doing just in an incident independent from Lloyd's death.
According to The Associated Press (h/t NFL.com), the prosecution has asked for permission to tell the jurors about a February 2013 incident in which it is alleged that Hernandez shot his friend, Alexander Bradley, in the face after a night out at a Florida club.
Kim Tunnicliffe of WBZ Radio in Boston provided details of the allegations:
Per Brian Steele of MassLive.com, the prosecutors revealed in a motion that they believe the information is relevant due to the stance that the defense has taken in the Lloyd trial.
"The defendant is by no means someone who would necessarily refrain from resorting to extreme violence —including homicidal violence—merely because the victim was a friend," the motion reads.
It is unclear if the prosecution's motion will be granted since Hernandez has not been found guilty of anything in the Bradley case.
One can only assume that such information would influence the jury to some degree, and it is entirely possible that Superior Court Judge Susan Garsh will maintain her stance that the situation cannot be discussed because of that.
