Seattle’s 12th Man can hope for more Beast Quakes next season: After rumors of possible retirement, star running back Marshawn Lynch has decided to return to the NFL next season and stick with the Seahawks. The 28-year-old inked a new deal on Friday that covers the next three years, NBC Sports reports.
The first part of the deal increases his salary under his current contract, which covers the 2015-16 season. Instead of $7 million, Lynch will now take home $12 million. Per NBC, he’ll receive a $7.5 million signing bonus and $4.5 million in guaranteed salary.
The second part of the deal extends the contract two more years, which means Lynch could be popping Skittles on Seattle’s sidelines until the 2017-18 season. According to agent Doug Hendrickson, who spoke with ESPN, Lynch will make $24 million for those extra years should he decide to keep playing.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter first broke the news of the new deal early Friday afternoon via Twitter; the team later confirmed it with a tweet of their own on Friday night. The Seahawks’ tweet also jokingly alluded to Lynch’s peculiar relationship with the media.
Lynch’s friends and fans, meanwhile, are ecstatic, including teammates Brandon Mebane and Bruce Irvin, who extended their congratulations to Lynch on Twitter on Friday and Saturday.
