It’s a rise that is partly attributable to the bump in value that NBA franchises experienced after Ballmer forked over $2 billion for the Los Angeles Clippers. The Hall of Famer owns 89 percent of the Charlotte Hornets, now estimated to be worth at least $500 million. And, of course, there’s the Nike Jordan brand, which grossed an estimated $2.25 billion in 2013 and, according to Forbes, says pays him $90 million a year. He also has deals with Gatorade, Hanes and Upper Deck. Not bad for a 52-year-old.
Still, Jordan isn’t quite in the same rarefied air as Ballmer, who is the richest of all pro sports owners. With a net worth of $21.5 billion, he is rated the 35th wealthiest person in the world.
