Faced with seeing both his role and salary decrease in 2015, Andre Johnson has apparently decided to call time on his Houston Texans career.

John McClain of the Houston Chronicle has the full details of the current situation, the biggest of which is that Johnson is seeking a trade or outright release from the Texans:

Johnson took to Instagram to thank his fans for their support:

This isn't the first time it looked like Johnson was preparing to leave the Texans. Last year, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported he and the team were engaged in a standoff over a $1 million roster bonus, and Johnson was close to forcing his way out.

Houston would almost certainly love to take his salary off the books. According to Mark Berman of Fox 26 in Houston, Johnson is owed $10.5 million in 2015 and comes with a cap hit of roughly $16.1 million. That's a lot of money to pay for a wide receiver who turns 34 in July.

McClain added that any trade partner will want to have Johnson's contract reworked:

Andrew Brandt believes that any suitors will simply wait until Johnson becomes a free agent rather than trying to work a trade:

Johnson has spent all 12 years of his NFL career in Houston after getting selected third overall in the 2003 draft.

He has appeared in 169 games for the organization, catching 1,012 passes for 13,597 yards and 64 touchdowns. The 33-year-old is far and away the franchise leader in every receiving category, and it'll be some time before anybody overtakes him.

Although Johnson's numbers dropped in 2014, plenty of teams would likely line up to try and acquire him. He's probably got at least another season or two left in the tank, and with a more reasonable salary figure, he'd offer value to a team with Super Bowl aspirations in 2015.
