Former Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston has a Heisman Trophy and national championship on his resume. Now he may have a trademark, too.

Darren Rovell of ESPN.com reported that Winston “filed to trademark 'Famous Jameis,' a nickname he was given during his impressive two-year stint at Florida State, where he won a national title and a Heisman Trophy and only lost his last of 30 games as a starter.”

Rovell also noted that the nickname has reportedly stuck since Winston played Little League Baseball, but it started appearing on merchandise when the quarterback became a household name due to his success on the football field at Florida State.

In fact, a man in Alabama once actually tried to trademark it before Winston had the opportunity to do so as a college athlete.

Russ Spielman, a partner of The Legacy Agency, which represents Winston, commented on this move, via Rovell: "We have begun taking steps to protect our client and his intellectual property rights. Right now his sole focus is on football. We hope to utilize this way down the line."

Many expect Winston to be the top overall pick in the upcoming draft, so whichever team selects him will likely sell plenty of Winston merchandise. That will especially be the case if he excels in his rookie season, so it should come as no surprise that he made this move before draft day.
