LeSean McCoy hasn’t spoke publicly about the shocking news that he has been traded by the Philadelphia Eagles to the Buffalo Bills for Kiko Alonso, but the Pennsylvania native reportedly isn’t happy about it.
“He’s a Pennsylvania kid. He’s never played football outside of Pennsylvania—high school, college, pro–so of course he’s not happy,” ESPN’s Josina Anderson quoted an unnamed source as saying. “Sounds like it’s pretty final to me unless LeSean is refusing to go to Buffalo.”
The trade won’t become final until free agency opens on Tuesday, but McCoy’s options are few because he is due to make $9.75 million in 2015. He’d rather those checks come from the Eagles, though.
“Honestly, he’s frustrated…” Anderson quoted the source as saying. “It’s all right. It’s the league. I told him that. I guess he just never experienced that, but he was like ‘why me?’”
Getting rid of McCoy is seen as just another move by Coach Chip Kelly to bring in his kind of players. He cut cornerback Cary Williams on Tuesday and let DeSean Jackson go to the Washington Redskins a year ago. McCoy’s big contract made him less desirable for the Eagles, too, but he wasn’t expecting a trade, the source told Anderson.
“Honestly we were under the impression the whole time, that eventually at some point, Chip [Kelly] was going to ask LeSean to restructure his contract–not a pay cut, but convert some of his signing bonus.”
