As part of a firestorm of surprising moves, the Eagles released Cole on Wednesday after 10 productive seasons with the organization.
While he is a defensive end by trade, Cole moved to outside linebacker under head coach Chip Kelly and had some success to the tune of 14.5 sacks over two seasons. Even so, Philly felt the need to part ways with the 32-year-old star.
Cole has 85.5 career sacks and could help any number of teams, but the first organization to meet with him will be the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, according to ESPN's Adam Caplan:
The Bucs are coming off an awful 2014 season that saw them rank near the bottom of the league with just 36 sacks. A player of Cole's caliber would undoubtedly help, but Tampa is unlikely to be the only team interested in his services.
While Cole may not necessarily be in the midst of his prime anymore, he has a body of work that simply cannot be ignored.
Tampa may be his first stop, but many more could potentially be on the agenda.
